Chaco Culture National Park

The center of an ancient world: Chaco Culture National Historical Park.

Ancient great houses dating from 850 A.D. and home to ancestral Puebloan people are located throughout Chaco Canyon and beyond the boundaries of the park in northwest New Mexico. Working alone at the great houses at night was fascinating, the stillness broken by the occasional coyote howl or owl hoot. I was fortunate to be the artist-in-residence at the park in March 2016. The paths of two annular solar eclipses passed over Chaco in 2012 and 2023, resulting in an extraordinary experience among the ancient structures.
